Distance learning and technology

UK qualifications are recognised and respected all over the world and with modern technology it is becoming even easier to study for them without leaving your own country. Developments in technology have been harnessed in a variety of ways for both on-campus and off-campus delivery. One of the major benefits for distance learners is the opportunity this can provide for easier access to fellow students and to academic and support staff.

Over the past year, EDi have worked with the British Council to deliver a web based online learning resource called the Education UK award. This e-Learning resource allows candidates to register themselves independently and the British Council administrators are able to manage registrations and the content of the web site. Candidates are able to study using the latest, up to date information and they can also collaborate with staff and other candidates using various methods including a discussion forum and a friends network. The system tracks the progress of candidates through the course to allow people from all over the world to study and collaborate and communicate around their own schedule and time zone.

EDi and the British Council have been working together on various e-Learning projects for the last decade. Beginning with a simple CD-ROM, the projects have increasingly taken advantage of new technologies and more technically aware users. The projects so far have proved extremely successful and popular with Candidates; EDi and the British Council are excited about what the future holds for advancing technologies and distance learning.
