Creative Hive shortlisted for top digital award
Creative Hive (www.creativehive.org) – the interactive digital space that acts as a showcase for the work of colleagues and students – has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.
Alex Fenton, who developed Creative Hive originally as a final project for his MA Creative Technology, also works at the University for Interactive Media Developers EDinteractive
His creation, which uses web 2.0 and the virtual world of Second Life to create digital spaces for creative people, enables a personal web space to be set up and produces a searchable central pool of ideas and projects.
As well as being shortlisted in the Little Chip Student Awards category, Creative Hive has been selected as a feature in the University's digital learning, teaching and research space at MediaCityUK and anyone is welcome to join and connect with other creative projects and work.
Alex is one of four finalists, who will go on to compete in the upcoming Big Chip Awards (http://www.bigchipawards.com/) this summer – described as “the biggest digital awards outside London”. Now in their 13th year, the Big Chip Awards celebrate the digital sector in the north of England.
Shaun Fensom, chairman of Manchester Digital and organiser of the Big Chip Awards, said: “The level of quality in this year’s Little Chip submissions has been outstanding and it’s fantastic news for the digital sector in the North that our educational institutions are producing such talented and forward-thinking students.”
The Big Chip Awards will be announced at an awards dinner on 16 June.
